Thanks, Susie--I loved that story of the eleven year-old girl who talked Lincoln into his beard. I thought the story would end with the letter, but it ended in a special Presidential stop in the girl's hometown, and a face-to-face. RIch, bearded history....
My vanity prevents me from growing a beard, since it would be all silver.
You are lucky you still have that lovely head of hair! And yes, I loved that story - ending with her getting a chance to meet him. What a thoughtful man he was.
I’m so glad you’ve read “The Serviceberry” too! I preordered it from our local indie bookstore and took it with last week for our retreat. I read it in an afternoon and evening, and now am going back to read it again. Robin Wall Kimmerer is such a wonderful writer. And her concept of the gift economy really has me thinking, as well.
OMG. One night after dinner the family conversation evidently strayed to the merits of various bidets!! I was oblivious having eaten so much for the second night in a row that I had to retire to the sofa. Until. My daughter in law yelled in my direction “Sue! How often do you use your bidet?” I thought for a nanosecond and replied “That seems like way too personal of a question! What the heck are you talking about over there? “ 😂😂😂
And so it goes.
Thanks very much for the Poole family memories. When Jini and Everett and kids stayed in Edgartown they lived around the corner from us and livened up our quiet 1960’s winter neighborhood. ❤️
Oh my that's too funny - bidets! You never know about conversation around the (post-) dinner table! So fun that you had the Pooles as neighbors in the winter. What a fun Island upbringing you had Sue - you should write about it!
This was lovely and now I need to make cookies. That story about the little girl convincing Lincoln to grow a beard was exactly what I needed this morning. Thank you so much for sharing ❤️

It really is something to think about Susie - and yes, I'm going to read it with a pencil this time - I hate to mark it up but I have to!
I ordered the Auroras from Johnny's "on the spot"!
Good idea - I noticed other things were already sold out!!!
I also got the Agave. Ballerina next??
I’d better go order mine! 😂
I’ve always loved the look. Just couldn’t stand the itch myself. Scratching my chin like a freakin’ cat all the dang time. Good on your men ☺️
I understand!! 😂
