Holding a vision for a completely healed and healthy Farmer! Also, always happy to help with excess zinnia seedlings. 😉 Thank you for the lovely glimpse into your life. My spring indoors and out is also garden, plants, tidying, dogs, deadlines…. Just subscribed too.

Samantha! Thank you so much for becoming a paid subscriber - so grateful. And for your kind wishes for Farmer (your former neighbor - or almost neighbor - pooch!) Hope you guys (including the dogs) are well. I'll definitely let you know if I have extra zinnias! Last year I had a little plant sale but I think I'm going to be too late this year (and not enough time to pull it off) but you should come over and see the hoop house when it fills up a bit!

My gosh. The unplanted Dahlia tubers. The office decluttering (so hard). The rewritten lists on yellow legal pads. The old electronics. Loads of books and magazines (I have a thousand combined, maybe). I can really relate to all this. Maybe you're motivating me on some of these tasks. You sound very organized in approaching all this, at least. And the "being here is all that" really nails it.

Beautiful photos, as usual.

Hi Kathy! I have to declutter regularly to clean up the mess I make when I have a lot of deadlines at once. It makes me feel like I'm back on track a bit to do it...but it doesn't last long! And we need infinitely more (and better) bookshelves! Did you keep old Taunton magazines? I only have some of mine...

Some Inspired Home, a few Fine Homebuilding, one or two Fine Woodworking, and because of being a member of Mass Hort, I still get Fine Gardening. And, of course, ALL the Fine Cooking magazines up to 156/Ded 2018, when I cancelled b/c they just weren't the same and too much "Advertorial". But, I also have tons of books. At least twenty. Home and design-oriented. Want any? ;-)

I still get Fine Gardening, too! I wonder where they are working out of now? Thank you for the offer - I still have a ton of Taunton books, so all I need to do know is recoup the early FC issues that I gave away in one of my moves (argh)!! My first issue was #19! You were there before me though, probably when #1 came out?

Yep. One of the first people I met when interviewing was Steve H., who was working on the concept and first issue.(Those issues are very valuable!)

Impressive! Inspiring! Susie, I could visualize every single stage of growth! Sounds like you and Farmer are doing what you need to do. Wishing a return to good health. It is clear how much he means to you! 🐾❤️

That garden plot is Huge! Looks and sounds like you have set yourself up for a lot of “over-doing-it” but at least with all your favorite things- Glad you got some declutteting done before Everything outgrows its starter containers!

I’m not gardening much this season (herbs only!) I simply won’t have time. My door to open is the one to outdoors. Okay so I manage to open it a teeny weeny bit daily (because I practically live outdoors) but the door for me has a tight spring that snaps back and hits me on the ass, coming or going. These days I am only managing to eke out some minimum plant/garden maintenance (e.g. remove dead stalks from peonies, iris, babtisia, and astillbe- thank god for perennials!) Then nature takes over and makes me look good, Also, my dad mows and my husband weedwhacks (all edges everywhere) which makes everything seem well-tended. BTW, this ALL happened is last 7 days! Raining today- it will all need tending every week for next few months!!

Jessica, I totally hear you. We have to be realistic about what we can do. I'm glad your husband and Dad help with that beautiful property of yours. I will never forget visiting you there (more than once) and being inspired. As far as our big garden down in the field, we have at least one more year of improving the soil down there. It is in very poor condition so we will be liming and cover-cropping. I got a grant to build the fence so that is one thing that will have to happen this year. But the whole thing is a very slow motion project, because I just can't do that much gardening while I'm working full time. So we're really just trying to repeat what we did last year, only I'm at least a month behind - and not going to worry about it! It will happen when it happens! And yes, thank god for the perennials.

I just love these snapshots of your life on the farm. Glad you had a little time to immerse yourself in non-deadline-related tasks--feels miraculous when that happens, doesn't it? My fingers are crossed for Farmer as he goes through treatment. xox
