Susie...I'm so happy to see the picture of your dad and just so dapper. Sounds as if his gift to you was perfect. I've recently had a conversation with a good friend about "finding the awe in the everyday." (I have to say that my daily dog walks foster this along with my preference to walk solo and take in the surroundings.) Are you familiar with the work of Dacher Keltner? Here is one link from a search...read only if of interest! https://behavioralscientist.org/seeking-a-science-of-awe-a-conversation-with-dacher-keltner/ Thanks always for your writings.
I love the idea of finding the awe in the everyday! i've just sent the link to the Keltner piece to myself so i can read on my phone tomorrow (we're taking a little two day road trip). Thank you so much for that. And yes, Dad really had a turn around after having a cardioversion this fall, which relieved his fatigue and shortness of breath. Still has a heart valve issue but all things considered, he's doing great. (And to this day, he dresses better than all the rest of us!
So here's to a year of daily awe - and lots of walks - for both of us. Best, Susie
Small press so no audio I think. I think you’d like it, Josie. I also found it was easy to jump in and out of because of the individual chapters on each mystic.
Jane, it happens to me every so often. We need something to help us push the reset button. But then when we remember how joyful it is - to be in awe - it is such a boost.
Oh Susie, tears are flowing while reading this, thank you. How lovely that your dad was able to give you this book ~ just what you needed right now. I am reminded in this piece of the quote often attributed to Lao Tzu ~ When the student is ready, the teacher will appear. I imagine your dad finds great joy in sharing these teachings with you which is a gift in itself!
I am reminded here of mystic scholar James Finley who has a great podcast "Turning to the Mystics" and he often talks about THE DEATHLESS PRESENCE OF THE TEACHER which I love- so many who have passed away are still so alive and present in our lives- including Farmer! They are so willing to help us move through our lives with the generosity of their teachings if we are willing to listen and take them into our lives.
Thank you for sharing your journey and for being so open to this presence which is all around us and offering such comfort as we move toward a new year of love and learning. Enjoy every moment and sending love x
Polly, thank you so much for this. I knew you'd be able to illuminate me. I will look up that podcast. And I really love that - the deathless presence of the teacher. Farmer! Wow. I do think it requires listening and presence.
And yes it is amazing how those teachers appear when we need them. (Ahem -you teach me all the time!) love to you as the new year approaches. xo
an instinctive wonderful gift your Dad gives you and generously poetically shared here along with a reminder that the bonds of love filtered through a natural environment never to be taken for granted will eventually overpower, outlast.
You say you don't know much of mysticism, but anyone steeped in nature as you are already knows, I think. The revelation will be to recognize what you've always known.
Thanks so very much for sharing your journey with us. What a lovely way to begin the new year.
This piece is Holy. Thank you for sharing them.

Looked to see if this is an audio book, does not appear to be. It seems like a book I would enjoy - thank you for sharing this!

I intend to purchase this book and I’ve also recommended it to several friends!

We're in sync. No surprise. I just purchased The Earth Has a Soul by Jung ❤️
Ooh, I will look into that. Sorry to miss you on the Island this time!
Recently it occurred to me that I have lost my connection to to magic and wonder. Thank you for illuminating a way back to it.

Dear Susie, cracks of pain that open our hearts can be a brutal blessing. Sending light your way. xo
Thank you Lorene. I know you know. Thank you for the light and the color. All best to you in the new year.

Appleton that is lovely. I like the idea of love filtering through nature - thank you for that.
This piece was my “church” for the day- and I’ll take a good mindful walk about to clinch it. Thank you!
So glad Jessica - you have the most beautiful place to explore and experience! The best church.

Ah David that makes perfect sense! I’m looking forward to opening my eyes and all of my other senses to all the possibilities. Thank you.
