Please note: If you’re just joining us, you might like to read or glance at The Sidebar: The Kitchen Redo Begins from March 7 before reading this. Or I can just give you the short story: this was a very small kitchen that was quite ugly and dated — and it is STILL going to be a very small kitchen, only much nicer. So the design challenge was getting the biggest bang out of the fewest changes, in virtually the same footprint.
Our kitchen renovation began on Monday, April 28, with full demolition completed on day one. Everything came down and out, including that horrible half wall and the soffit around the ceiling.
Since then, the new (bigger) window has been installed (YAY!), the new drywall has been put up, all of the cabinets (well, all but one set of doors) have been installed, the over-the-range microwave has been installed (twice), the electrician and plumber have both been here (twice), the countertop pro has been here to make the template, and the plasterers were here this morning to smooth out all the rough spots. The soapstone countertop is due to be installed on Monday or Tuesday.
