Garden Gram #7: In Search of the Perfect Blue Flower
Will the Italian Mistral Blue Anemone Be It?

I have a thing about blue flowers. Not necessarily blue hydrangeas (sorry), but any flowers that push over the edge from purple into the realm of violet blue or deep indigo, or that leave the soft lilac-y lavenders behind for watery, almost steely, blues.
Unfortunately, true blue flowers are pretty rare, and I don’t think I’ve quite gotten there on growing one. Probably the closest I’ve come is the Love-in-a-Mist Miss Jekyll Dark Blue (Nigella) I grew last year. It self-seeded, so happily I’ll have a few more. I grouped a few others together in the photo above, trying to leave out the purple flowers that really wanted to join the group. I also bought one single blue delphinium at Peppers nursery in Delaware this year and have stuck it into the vegetable garden with hopes it will flower without deer interference.
But, drumroll please, I’m very excited about a new development.
