Garden Gram #24: Cultivating That Beautiful Mess
This messy garden thing is an art - and one you have complete control over. Plus: deer-safe(ish) plants!
I tootled around the garden(s) this afternoon with the camera. I was thinking about Maria Rodale’s thought-provoking post about embracing messiness in our gardens and landscapes. This is not exactly a problem for us. We don’t have the budget for neatly manicuring our property even if we wanted to. (We are overflowing in leaf litter, decaying organic matter in the woods, and any number of opportunities for microorganisms and critters alike to hang out in our yard.) I admit, I wouldn’t mind a bit more hardscaping – like a path to the front door where currently one does not exist! But it’s New England – no one comes in the front door.
