I stumbled into the garden late yesterday afternoon with the camera. Tired and short of words (for once), I hoped to capture the absolute awe and reverence I often feel on a day like this. A cool, clear, sunny August day. Cosmos dancing in the breeze; dahlias, newly bloomed, standing at attention. Sunflowers begging to open. Runaway bean vines lassoing zinnias. Coneflowers and black-eyed Susans toppling into pathways, daylilies and Rose of Sharon scattering their spent blooms randomly over gravel and moss. Farmer lying in a pile of lavender trimmings. Onions curing, fat bees slumbering.
All this, bathed in the light of angels – rays of pure luminous warmth landing in brilliant pools on the backs of butterflies and the cheeks of shy nasturtiums.
Beauty, caught in the back of my throat.
Whether or not the camera captured that feeling, I don’t know. Here are a few frames.
